What our diners think

A lovely, warm and inviting place to spend time socialising with friends...
I'm one of a small group of friends that meet weekly to dine and socialise at The Tollemache, Buckminster. We are always warmly greeted by all, it has a lovely, inviting atmosphere and the staff really make it. The 'specials' on Wednesdays change weekly and we've really enjoyed the variety offered; always gorgeous and incredible value for money. The Sunday roasts are a real treat (but you must book!). Walking there on a cold, wintry day, you're greeted by a welcoming, roaring log fire that is more than equaled by the warmth and friendliness of the staff. Don't just take my word for it though, visit and see for yourself...
Excellent food and service
We had a family evening meal for my daughters 19th birthday. The chef and staff had gone out of their way to ensure all our needs are met, as in our party we have a vegan and a gluten free. All the food was beautifully cooked and well presented. Vegan desert was chocolate brownie which was delicious , they very kindly gave her what was left of the brownie to take home. We will definitely be returning.

Mr & Mrs a Jeffries
Great atmosphere and a genuine welcome. Food is great and competitively priced, a really nice place for a meal or a special evening out.

So good last time, we came back!
A Valentine's Day romantic dinner for two calls for something really special - and that's what this place is. The warm, inviting ambiance, the excellent food (lamb was the best I've had for a long time), the friendly and really efficient service - all faultless. Loved it.
Warm Welcome awaits
We met up with old friends for lunch. A warm welcome awaited us. We spent a leisurely time over a superb lunch in the company of our friends. Staff were welcoming and attentive. We have already agreed to return when we next meet our friends.

Lovely lunch with our two dogs
We've been staying at nearby Stoke Rochford Hall for a few days. We wanted to get out for an afternoon lunch and to be able to take our two dogs with us. We found the Tollemache Arms by searching for dog friendly places nearby. We were delighted by our choice, as the food was excellent and very nicely presented. The staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome. We hope to be back again before our stay is over.
Mr Clark
The room was very clean with new quality furniture .Staff are very friendly. The highlight of the stay had to be the food. Very large portions and delicious.
Just me and the dog
Went for a dog walk on a Saturday morning as my good lady was out with friends. decided to try and find a pub for some lunch on the way home and have driven past this a few times. Really glad I did. Popped my head round the door and saw a roaring fire and a friendly smile. Dog was welcome as well. Lovely pale ale, lovely comfy sofa, lovely staff, lovely chicken burger and real chips. Lovely! from what I saw I would highly recommend. Must bring the wife next time.
Tapas and lovely surroundings
My husband and I visited the Tollemache Arms several times and have enjoyed the Tapas, we feel it is good value. Lovely surroundings with the open fire and the food is always good quality.
Wow an extremely warm place in the middle of winter
My associate booked me into this hotel so not been before. I was bowled over the staff they where excellent nothing too small, the ambiance outstanding, and the food was amazing! VFM all the way! Would recommend!!

Amazing food and service
Went to the pub for my mums birthday and was very impressed with the food, staff and the beautiful old building. If you're in the area and haven't been I recommend you do.

Fantastic place for lunch!!
We stopped for lunch on our way to Harlaxton and were so pleased we did! The menu was fab, food was delicious and the staff were so friendly. We wanted to try and get back while we were near but didn't get the time but I would definitely recommend it - apparently they do a steak night with a bottle of red wine for a great price. Go if you can!

Pleasantly surprised
Driving past the Tollemache Arms looks an old quaint place, but walking in, its modern. Initially I was put off to find in one corner a leather suite and television, it looked like someone's living room. But what a surprise. The waitress was wonderful, she was pleasant, chatted to us and when we said one of our part had a gluten intolerance, she immediately went off to see if she had any gluten free bread. Sadly they had run out, but it is Christmas, but at lease she went to look and they normally offer it. I had mussels which came with a great chunk of bread, they gave me a finger bowl to wash my hands afterwards and a bowl for empty shells! That sounds condescending, but its not. I have been in restaurants who pride themselves on their service but could not offer a finger bowl. Two had brie and bacon sandwiches which came with chips and they were whoppers and the other had pork (in abundance) with apple sauce and chips, this should have been a sandwich but of course she could not have the bread. We all really enjoyed our food. The atmosphere was welcoming and it soon became very busy. We were really happy we had chosen the Tollemache Arms, it was a very good choice. We thought of going back their for our evening meal rather than eating in our hotel, but we had the impression they were closing, so we did not do so. But should we be in the area again, we would certainly go back. Highly recommended.

So relaxing
Booked the tollemache arms for our anniversary for some time out. Stayed for one night with breakfast included. Lovely family run bar and restaurant coal fire to relax in front of. Hotel and restaurant run by son and daughter and nice to sit and chat to their parents who help out. made to feel at home by all the family. They couldn't do enough for you it was raining so an umbrella was left near the door for us as you have to go a few steps outside to reach the accommodation. The food was wonderful had the garlic mushroom starters and the burgers which were a bit too much for us with smaller appetites. Wonderful tasty quality food. Breakfast was a gutbuster quality sausages bacon and eggs also a continental which my fiancee had. As I say everything is there to make you feel at home. Our room was just outside the bar and restaurant up a few stairs above the kitchen. The kitchen and restaurant noise was hardly noticeable. Lovely good sized room with free wifi. Very good sized en suite with nice hot shower heated towel rail and underfloor heating. Comfortable bed gave us a good night sleep. First time I've come away from a hotel feeling so tired but in a good way was so relaxing and friendly was a welcome break from a hustle and bustle lifestyle. Situated a couple of miles off the A1 midway between Grantham and Melton Mowbray. Decided to book the tollemache after reading good reviews and the pictures of the nice rooms wasn't disappointed will be recommending to family and friends.

Great Food
Went for a work meal and really enjoyed it. Food was great, good ales and very friendly staff. Only criticism is that the bar area is too brightly lit! Will go back if in the area again.

Tapas to die for
We visited the tollemache again after such a good meal last time.I decided to try the Tapas Chorizo, black pudding and poached egg,Mussels in chilli cream and king prawns absolutely fantastic good size portions and well presented, my husband had fish and chips said they were very good we will be back

Excellent food and customer service
The food is fresh, presented beautifully and above all tastes good. The decor of the pub and restaurant is tasteful, comfortable and cosy in the winter with the fire lit. I was impressed with how polite and courteous the staff were, nothing was too much. Overall a great experience and we will return.

Closed on Mondays but great beer, atmosphere and staff
We were looking for a lunchtime pint on a Monday. Everywhere was closed then we drove past and this was open. Turns out they'd opened for a private party but the barmaid let us stop for a pint as long as we kept out of the way and didn't want to eat. The choice of real ales were all in good condition. So a huge big thanks to them for being flexible! Now I'm looking forward to coming back and trying the food.

Outstanding meal and value for money
We arrived late in the evening on a Friday; things were still busy and we had a bit of a wait, but were seated quickly and served drinks. My wife's portion of cod and chips were excellent, though huge. My chicken parmesan (plus a side salad) was excellent in every way, with interesting accompaniments and a flavoursome sauce - again a rather large portion. They serve some nice local ales. The dining area was very pleasant and the service top-notch. It's a pity we're not local and are unlikely - for that reason alone - to return. Highly recommended!

The Wrinklies Strike Again with a Superb Find In Buckminster
My wife decided to give the Tollemache Arms (TA) try for a meal and are we glad we did. The welcome, service and the food was really excellent - the portions were magnificent and you certainly do not leave feeling hungry. My wife had soup with homemade bread and butter, followed by scampi and chips, and a creme brulée. I also had the soup, fish and chips with mushy peas, and banana eggy bread. We both agreed that everything was truly scummy - so many congratulations to the chef. Our food was supplemented with a good range of beers and ciders. This venue is definitely now on our hit list for when we are in this area of Lincolnshire. So many thanks to all the family who run the TA - no doubt you will have every success as your clientele base deservedly increases. Many thanks.

Fantastic lunch
We decided to go to the Tollemache as we had not been for a while the food was excellent I had seafood tagliatelle my husband had parmesan chicken fantastic value meals, a good choice menu something for everybody and very reasonably priced, staff very pleasant and good service and Pete is a very good chef his presentation was very good. We will be back.

 Surprise find
During a recent stay in Grantham we found ourselves with no where to eat quite late on a Saturday night. We had a quick look on trip advisor and found the Tollemache arms. A quick phone call booked as a table, however they stopped serving in 30 minutes and we were a good 20 minutes away! There was no spaces in the car park but we found a car park nearby and made it in time. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is a pleasant environment, clean and spacious. There is a small separate dining area with a large group table and sofas which was being used for a family party - perfect idea. The menu had enough variety without being huge and overwhelming. In addition there is a specials board. We chose to have a starter and main with thoughts of adding a dessert. However, portions were so generous that we had no room for dessert, watching other desserts being served this made us very sad - they looked delicious! Prices are what you'd expect from a gastro pub. There is a reasonable range of beers on pump served at a good temperature. Despite arriving late we never felt hurried or an inconvenience. If we go back to the area we would definitely visit again.

Burgers to be believed
Sometimes I am tempted to have a burger on a bistro pubs menu but these burgers are to be believed. Large, probably over large but what the heck, tasty and reasonably priced. The starters are also worth mentioning, the duck rolls are tasty and plentiful, as is the whitebait. The waitresses were very helpful.

Good
We ate hear it was a very good meal. We had the special fish and chips the batter was very light. Also recommend the salted caramel cheesecake

Fabulous lunch
Stopped here for pub lunch for 4 and it was fantastic. Friendly, helpful service and delicious food. Couldn't fault it. Highly recommended.

Wednesday Barbecue Night

 Enjoyable mid-week lunch
We visited last week with our relatives. The food was really tasty, plentiful and well presented. We all cleared our plates.I feel I must give a special mention about the Chocolate Marquise. It was absolutely delicious, and that's from a confirmed chocoholic. All the flavours went well together and as for the sweet mint jelly, beautiful. I just loved it!

Superb Food - best burger ever!!! :)
This was a lovely setting. Plenty of room to park and a very warm welcome on arrival. We'd booked a table although it was quite quiet when we arrived - it got busier and busier (a good sign!). The food was clearly home-cooked and the majority of us chose the burger option A good decision as it was probably the best I'd ever tasted! A first-class experience with first class dining! Brilliant!!!

Family friendly Sunday Lunch
Attended for Sunday lunch with a group of family and friends with children ranging from 2-10 and quite a large group. Service was fantastic, bringing menus out to eh beer garden so we could mull it over in the sun. When requested, they offered meals that were not usually on the Sunday menu also. The children's mains were brought along with starters and all of the food was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Lovely location, food and staff. Will definitely visit again.

Very Nice Sunday Lunch
After dog walking and a nature safari with our 7 year old around Buckminster we stopped off for a late Sunday lunch We elected to eat outside in the garden which was great for our daughter and dog to explore,The initial greeting was warm and friendly, service was good and prompt The menu was nice ( I could have choose three starters for my meal) we decided on Sunday lunch , We both had sirloin of beef , it was cooked just right and plenty of it, veg was cooked just right and lovely crispy roast potatoes. Our daughter had homemade chicken goujons which she enjoyed, especially because it was served in a bucket that she wanted to fill with soil and take home It was a shade pricey but I suppose you get what you pay for.

Birthday Celebration
Enjoyed a lovely family birthday celebration. Placed in the library on our own with doors closed to rest of diners which was fantastic as we had a newly mobile toddler in the group. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff, food excellent. One comment ' this is the best beef I have ever tasted'. Many thanks to Sarah & the rest of the staff. Will certainly recommend you to others.

Sunday Lunch
I was taken here for Sunday lunch by friends. They have been many times before but this was my first visit....it was lovely! Varied menu, beautifully presented, generous portion sizes, friendly staff. Will be back soon.

What a great find
We stopped in for lunch, but quite late (about 14.30 on a Friday). We can only agree with the majority of reviews here already. A very clean and welcoming place. My wife ordered the scampi, which was given a ten out of ten for taste and appearance. I ordered the Tollemache burger, which l can only say; you've got to taste to believe! Another ten out of ten.If we were in the area again we would most certainly be giving them a second visit.

Nice stop for lunch
A little gem of a place, delicious food, warm welcome, clean environment.Food lovely, limited choice but great quality taste and presentation.Worth a visit and if in the area I will visit again.

Superb food and sevice
Fantastic food and service this family run pub is just the place to go for a family lunch. We also had the sun with us and ate in the beer garden ten out of ten !!

Lunch Time Treat
Came upon this pub by chance after visiting a National Trust property nearby. Quite quiet, so had our meal in the bar. Food very good, pleasantly served. Would go back again if we are in the area.

Nice meal out
First time been here and was very pleasantly surprised. Lovely setting and very welcoming inside with attentive staff, who have a sense of humour. Menu was good and had something for everyone from pork belly, steak, sea bass and a burger. This after their tapas to share (which was lovely and really nice) Will definitely go again, very nice!

Amazing Food
The food is amazing, and a meal for 2 including drinks and a starter was only £31. Easily well under priced for the portion size and quality.

Highly Recommended
This was a great little find in 2015 when stopped for Sunday lunch. Have been back several times with friends and the food has always been fantastic, whether it's a Sunday roast, bar snacks or from the main menu. The staff are very pleasant giving you a warm welcome and the chef knows how to prepare and deliver a tasty plate of food. Our latest visit was in April 2016 and had a fantastic time. The food was exceptional as always so felt it was about time I added my comments and highly recommend this establishment. Am already looking forward to another visit.

Best Food In Ages
I've lived near The Tollemache and previously visited- however what a change! Interior decor and welcome- amazing, such a change since the last time visited... Food was impeccable, Sunday lunch was the best presented, most filling and tasty; and as for the dessert go for the Sticky Toffee! Go, you won't be disappointed.

Fussy Eater
Thanks for a wonderful meal last night. Delicious food and such attentive staff. Really appreciate the alternatives offered for such a fussy eater.

A great Lunch
I've driven past this place regularly for years - today we went in for lunch - and we are glad we did. We had ciabattas. tasty fillings: cheese and salmon so we half and halfed. We plan to go back for an evening meal with one of our sons soon. Recommended.

Lunch and Birthday Cake
My husband and myself would like to thank you very much for the excellent lunch that we had with our family on Sunday to celebrate John's 85th Birthday. We should also like to thank you most sincerely for the lovely Birthday Cake which we all enjoyed later in the afternoon, it was delicious and such a kind gesture . We hope that we shall be able to have further family lunches with you in the future as everyone enjoyed it very much.

Family Meal
We ate here as family last night for the first time and it was a amazing experience. Friendly welcome and attentive service. We enjoyed a few drinks before the meal sat on the chesterfields in front of a roaring log fire. Lovely home cooked food with freshly baked bread at the table on arrival. One of the family is a Vegan and they prepared a lovely Vegan curry especially for her, this was followed by some homemade sorbets and I have been told it was very nice. I had the Tiger prawns to start, belly pork for the main and white chocolate brownie for dessert. All amazing. We will definitely be back!

What a fantastic Restaurant
Wonderful ! Fantastic menu with a great range of dishes. Lovely atmosphere and a huge log fire in the bar. Highly recommended - we'll be there for fish and chips night on Wednesday !!

Sunday Lunch
Had yet another fantastic meal at the Tollemache today with my lovely Mum and Dad. Sarah and the rest of the team always make you feel so welcome and Peters food is second to none, especially his lemon cheesecake which is to die for!
Via the Tollemache Arms Facebook Page

Lovely lunch
We happened to be passing whilst en route and it was almost lunchtime. The staff welcomed us and said we could have lunch immediately! We sat by a lovely open fire in comfy armchairs and had our drinks, then enjoyed a rare beef and horseradish ciabatta (huge amounts of beef, encouragingly tangy horseradish) which came with handcut chunky chips (total bargain at £5.50!) and a huge smoked mackerel and marinated red pepper salad (carefully dressed and interesting with matchsticks of courgette, good selection of leaves etc) with a mountainous side order of the same chips. Friendly staff and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Great!

Memorable Valentine's Day meal
My husband said it was a bit of a scramble to get a table anywhere for Valentine's dinner on the Saturday night but he got a last minute cancellation at the Tollemache Arms. How glad we were that someone kindly 'dipped out'. The meal was inventive, delicious, and beautifully presented. The starter platter included home made breads (so good we asked for seconds) home made pate, smoked salmon and duck breast 'tasters', followed by a refreshing sorbet. My main course was a very tasty Sea bass and Moules dish in a creamy sauce and a tender lamb with Dauphinoise potatoes for my husband served with fresh seasonal vegetables. The dessert was a generous platter for 2 with sticky toffee pudding and toffee sauce (my favourite), tiny lemon tarts and a divine chocolate tart with ice-cream. There was no way we could finish it all but everyone was taking home doggy bags - and we did the same. Everything was so scrumptious, we couldn't fault it. And great value too. I can definitely recommend a visit.

Welcoming pub/restaurant
Have been several times, always a warm welcome, and food, drink and coffees excellent! It's a good menu, not too long, and what they do is very good. Tapas style starters if wanted, and other choices, good range of mains and prices, food has been consistently excellent. Love the log fire and settees and chairs. And although we don't always take the dogs, they're dog friendly! I honestly can't think of a thing they could improve.

Amazing overnight valentines stay
I cannot rave enough about the Tollemache Arms. The family who run it are friendly and welcoming, the staff are professional and were smiling all night. The pub itself is beautiful. We drank wine by the fire and had the best meal I have ever tasted. It was a special for valentines where we had a platter of starters to share including duck breast, mushroom espresso with a truffle cream, chicken liver parfait, the a main of sea-bass served with green bean and leeks and topped with an oyster, that was totally amazing and a platter of desserts, that were melt in the mouth delicious. Finally our room was gorgeous, with a little bowl of sweets on either side of the bed and a vase with 2 roses, not to mention the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was cooked to order and was perfect. Can't wait to return.

Valentine's meal. Xx
What can I say. Xx from starters to sweets ,was all very very very nice. Sharing plater to start excellent my main dish of lamb cooked just right and we'll what can I say about desserts a wonderful selection to share. Well done.

Excellent Pub
First there are a few pubs with the same name. Do not confuse this one with a well known chain selling cheap beer and skilled with preparing frozen food using a microwave and deep fat fryer. All the food here is fresh and beautifully cooked. The staff have the right mix of formal and friendly. Chains can learn, I do not want to be asked after one minute and twenty seconds, when eating my first mouthful am I enjoying the meal. There were four of us and one had the foresight to book the table near the blazing log fire. We had tapas to start, which was better than many place on Spain.Mussels where divine a lovely creamy sauce saving a trip to Brittany!!If you are in Grantham go here. If you are traveling it is worth the four mile diversion from the A1. We will be back.
